Gannett Text Overlays

Recently, we made a change to the Text Lines overlay so that Storyboards and Ready to Publish or Instant Videos are more easily accessible to Gannett Local users.

Unfortunately this means that videos published by you and your team before this switch (around 2/14/2019) are subject to video failures and text issues. You can correct an older video for use with 3 easy steps: 1. Transcribe text for your video, 2. Change the aspect ratio to delete the old text elements 3. Return to the original aspect ratio and add your text

Not sure if this is relevant to your video? Here are a few questions that can help clarify:

  1. When you bring the video back to the Timeline, do you see the Text Lines on the rough preview but after opening the asset you don’t see it listed under Post Production on the Edit Image Overlay?
  2. Are you unable to edit or add text using Text Lines?
  3. When you open the Text Lines menu do you see this warning below the preview window?

If so, follow the below steps to remedy the error or reach out to support who would be happy to help walk you through it.

  1. Open a new word document or use your notes app. To insure that this transition happens smoothly we will need to transcribe all the text from the video so we have it on hand. All Text Lines copy will be deleted from the video so it is important to copy it over or have it elsewhere.
  2. Change the aspect ratio of the video from the drop down menu on the rough cut preview
  3. A pop up will appear stating that some effects will not be available, click OK
  4. Open the first asset on your timeline using Text Lines, you should see the effect listed on the left side of the preview with an error message: “Not Applied
  5. Hover over the effect on the menu, then click on the trash can icon to delete it
  6. Continue to the next asset using the grey arrow on the right hand side of the pop-up
  7. Repeat step 5 and 6 until you remove all Text overlays with the Not Applied error message from your video
  8. Return to the Timeline view
  9. Change the aspect of your video back to the original, in most cases that is 16×9
  10. Open the first asset on your timeline and continue to add your text

From here you should be able to edit normally and produce your video!

Please note, even if you don’t plan on using Text Lines in this new copy of your video you still need to remove them or the video will fail to produce. If your video fails or you have any questions please contact our support team either through the platform or at support@wochit.com.
